Puerto Maldonado-Posada Amazonas Lodge Peru

After the excitement of moving so quickly around the highlights of Peru the Gap tour went to the Amazon jungle--- Well the tributaries of the Amazon, that come out of the Andes at the back of Peru, and we all agreed we could have done with a bit more of this. It was only a 40 minute flight from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado and a completely different world of jungle and river.
Into a longboat and upriver to the Lodge and we saw 2 small cayman crocs on the way. Promising start but critters were a bit scarce after that. Accommodations were great--open to the jungle and huge and the food was fine. Could have done with a pool, was the only complaint we heard.
That evening we went on a walk to a 30 metre canopy tower where we saw a great sunset and a few birds. Later jaunts went to an Oxbow lake where the river had changed course and a Sharman, or medicine man where we sampled some of the medicine in liquer form.
