WHITBY--Capt Cook, Abbey, Fish & Chips fame

Yesterday we were on the west coast at Carlisle by train and today we drove up over the Yorkshire Moors to the town of Whitby which is famous for all the things named in the title. Weather was grim as we went over the moors and it was still raining in Whitby but it stopped after an hour and we got another fine afternoon. Seems like this summer that is the pattern. So Cook did all his maritime studies and practical sail training here and the house where he lived in the attic with the other trainees is worth a visit and he has a statue overlooking the port entry. Bram Stoker who wrote Dracula was inspired by the ruins of the Abbey and stage plays of Dracula are put on there. The fish and chip thing is even more famous and everyone partakes !!! So we got a good spot on the harbour  and scoffed some as well--A very nice afternoon
