Campsite on island in Prague

just got ourselves organized on our 1st day with the Camper going in for a service and a few big ones like a new windscreen and new tyres. Nice campground and restaurant

Decin and upper Bohemia

avoiding the m'way we drove down toward Prague along the Elbe River and found some great scenery and towns like Pirna, Bad Schandau and then Decin. Could have spent a lot more time around here cause it has heaps of sandstone country with natural bridges and spikes in National Parks with lots of great walks available

DRESDEN

For a place that was levelled during the war this place has been restored stone by stone to almost original. And original must have been special cause the reconstruction is awesome. Definitely a 'must do' if you get the chance

Berlin sites

some of the other sights of Berlin including the Reichstag and Holoucaste memorial and heaps of Govt buildings and Museums

Topographies of Terror--Berlin

I'll say something for the Germans. They don't try to hide from the truth about the 2nd World War and this display accounted the Nazi regimes terror tactics using the SS and the Gestapo

Brandenberg Gate and Victory Statue on 17th Juni strass

1st time able to walk through the Gate and its impressive. There was a protest going on about religious extremism in Arab countries and we also walked down to the Victory Statue which was huge and then back to Zoological Garden. Berlin has a big scale and we learned how to use the metro the next day to cut down the walking. Naturally Liz had to climb the 300 steps to the top of the Victory Statue

Checkpoint Charlie and its Museum

this was my 3rd visit to Checkpoint Charlie and nice to see for the 1st time with the wall down and a brilliant museum to explain what it was all about. For those who don't know I was arrested in 1971 when I walked on the grass cutting off a corner in East Berlin just inside Checkpoint Charlie and nearly got myself locked up. The eventually let me go and I was able to get out and catch my flight back to Hanover. Heard later about an American who was held for 4 months for complaining about something over there so I was pretty lucky.

Berlin

Maybe we could have done better with a campground if we hadn't arrived so late but we wanted to avoid the worst of the rush hour. Found that we had to catch 2 buses to get into Zoological Garden Stn and about 1.20 hrs in time. After we checked out after 2 days there we drove to Olympic Stadium and used the Metro and that is what I'd recommend. Plenty of free parking and I reckon you could get a free camp there as well. Kaiser Wilhelm Church was badly hit during the war so the remaining bits are now a memorial and museum and a new one with beautiful blue stained glass and very different cross view right beside

A Swim on the way to Berlin

Seedorf near Malchin German Lake Dist

Very lucky to meet 2 young Germans while looking for a lake to swim in. Sarah had spent 5 months in Australia a couple of years ago. We spent the afternoon and next morning with them and it was one of those nice personal contacts that you fluke now and then when you are on the road . Thanks to both of you Sarah and Stephan
